Stoughton WI Homes for Sale

Home of the Syttende Mai Festival

The city of Stoughton is a small community located conveniently just 15 miles outside of Madison. It is great for those who want to be in close proximity to our State’s Capitol while still enjoying the peace and quiet that rural Wisconsin has to offer.

Founded in 1847, Luke Stoughton was a prosperous man who utilized the resources of the Yahara River to power his working mill. As the small town grew, Norwegian immigrants began to pour into the town looking for work. Today, the city of Stoughton clings to its rich Norwegian heritage which can be seen in its quaint downtown streets and famous Syttende Mai festival. In addition to this, the city of Stoughton is accredited to modern day advancements as well. It boasts the state of the art Stoughton Hospital and is home to the well-known companies Uniroyal and B & G Foods; creators of Ortega and Cream of Wheat.

Stoughton’s Arts and Entertainment district boast a wide assortment of artists and art shops as well as our beautifully restored Stoughton Opera House on the second and third floors of city hall. The Stoughton Opera House is one of the few remaining second story theaters in the Midwest  and Southern Wisconsin’s Most Charming Theater.
